A proud family business since 1969, the Westminster Rubber Stamp Company (Westamp) was started by Dick Vink and his wife, Veneta, in New Westminster, B.C. After 25 years in the marking industry, Dick decided to branch out and establish his own company.
Westamp originally offered just stamps, signage, stencils and seals; during our first two weeks in business Dick made countless calls to potential clients, extolling the virtues of his new enterprise. After that, he never needed to make another sales call again. The quality of his workmanship quickly spoke for itself!
Our company flourished throughout the 1970s and was soon busy enough for Dick and Vanita to start bringing employees on board who weren’t family, though many soon felt like they were. In the 1980s, our entire operation moved to a larger facility on 8th Avenue in New Westminster. This move included upgrading some equipment, including kit to make photopolymer stamps. Then in 1986, Dick and Veneta decided to retire and passed the torch to their son Derek and his wife, Lynn.
In the mid 1990s, Derek and Lynn upgraded the business to include laser engraving for stamps and signs. We continued to grow and in 2006, moved out of our origin city to a larger facility in nearby Surrey, B.C. With that move came an expansion into digital printing. Another year down the road, Derek’s and Lynn’s son Jeff and nephew Brandon came on board, lending their education and experience to the tradition of working in the family business.
Fast forward to today; Jeff and Brandon have now taken over Westamp, allowing Derek and Lynn to enjoy their retirement. Westamp’s not in New Westminster anymore and our current offering includes much more than it did in 1969, but our dedication to a close-knit, family run business is ever-present.
